“See more carry less” definitely this tagline suits ASUS VivoBook 14 X412 for sure.

This is another great player of the VivoBook series from Asus launched on 11 June 2019 with a price of 59,990 Rupees for 8th generation i5, 8GB ram, 512GB SSD and 2GB NVIDIA graphics card. Claimed as the world’s smallest 14” Ultrabook, this laptop pack in it huge power in a good budget. When it comes to an Ultrabook, we do not have many options in this segment, because other brands cost more than 60k for the same configuration. But this laptop proved to be a performer with Ultra-portability.

Having the stage set let us see in detail review of this newcomer:

Design and Display

Asus named this design as frameless nano edge design” as the bezel on the sides measures 5.7mm, but the top and the bottom bezels measures more than 5.7mm. With 87% screen to body ratio, it looks stunning with a viewing angle of 178 degrees.

Asus VivoBook 14 features a 14-inch full HD display (1920X1080), is bright enough but does not support the full range of sRGB. Therefore is a pretty average in color reproduction.

This laptop weighs 1.5 kg, which of course is not too lightweight but when we talk about ultrabook, this is great. You can hold this on your one hand and you can type with the other hand (This stunt is performed by professionals, do not try this at home…haha ).

Vivobook 14 X412 is available in 4 different colors named: transparent silver, slate grey, iridescent peacock blue, and coral crush. For me, I love the grey option because the dotted texture around the keyboard looks stunning in grey.

I personally liked the ergo lift feature, though it is only a 2-degree lift when fully open that is up to 135 degrees open, this small lift keeps the cooling better because now more air is flowing below the laptop than before. It also makes typing easier considering ergonomics, but it concerns only those who type more like me.

On the two sides of this laptop, it consists of USB-C 3.1, USB 3.1, USB 2.0, HDMI, Security slot, MicroSD card reader and most importantly Charging slot (important to mention).

Keyboard

Asus Vivobook 14 X412 comes with optional backlit keyboard with one piece keyboard construction. The key travel is about 1.3 mm which is tested to withstand 10000K taps. And I really have no idea how much times I tap a key in the entire life of my keyboard, so if you know about this let us all know.

If you need the number pad, which we miss on a laptop, the silver version has it for you. A touch on the touchpad icon enables the LED illuminated numberpad on the touchpad itself. Though this feature is not available with fingerprint option. You can get only one of these.

VivoBook 14 X412 comes with an optional fingerprint scanner to log in to your system. This feature works great for its ease to log in frequently.

Storage and Battery

VivoBook 14 comes with SSD and HDD (upto 256GB and 1TB) called dual storage design which maximizes the app running speed with relief on your wallet. For smoother multitasking, this machine is equipped with Intel Optane memory technology. In UserBenchMark testing this laptop scored 187% that is exceptional score which means much faster read and write speed.

ASUS claims longer battery lifetime because of ASUS battery health charging technology which prevents overcharging of onboard Lithium-polymer battery. Besides what seems better is that the battery do not get overheated even at high CPU usages, Although you cannot keep it on your lap when plugged in.

 Audio

(ASUS SonicMaster is a combination of hardware, software and audio tuning designed with the goal of giving the very best audio experience. A professional-grade codec ensures precise audio encoding and decoding; while amplifiers, large speakers and resonance chambers perfectly suited to VivoBook 14 ensure a powerful audio delivery and deeper bass. Additional signal processing and tuning help refine minute details, filter noise and improve audio clarity so you get truly immersive sound.) and there is more of this technical stuff, But I am not impressed by the audio delivery on this laptop. Only when kept on a surface, you can hear it reasonably loud, otherwise not so good. (at this point i realize that i started expecting much more from a laptop)

Speakers

Performance

ASUS VivoBook 14 comes with 3 choices that is Intel Core i3,i5 or i7 eight generation processor with up to 16GB DDR4 RAM .the laptop comes with pre-installed windows 10 pro and dual band Wi-Fi 5 for fast online experience. For graphics requirement it is loaded with NVIDIA GeForce MX130 with 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM, though in our testing (using UserBenchMark), the graphic performance was not too good. The games run fine at medium graphic settings. This laptop stands with the score of 4023 on PC Mark Benchmark.

Cooling vents

The VivoBook 14 review unit’s performance was up to the mark in everyday uses scenario. I was able to multitask on everyday applications with ease. . The laptop was able to handle browsing, background file transfers, and background downloads simultaneously without breaking a sweat.

Verdict

This device looks stylish with thin bezels and it is easy to carry around without a dip in performance.

If you travel a lot and need to carry your laptop with you, this is one of the best mainstream laptops under 60000 budget.
